Building a background story

I'm writing a series of shorts between my main character and her (sadly) dead fiance. I've gotten two of who knows how many done and published.
I just want to know and love these two the way they do and get an understanding of why and what my protagonist does in her novel.
plus I think having the 'memories' to reference back to when I finally get to writing my bigger novel (which is the end goal) will be super handy.

Any ideas, suggestions, reviews are welcome. And if you think there's something these two should do, I'm more than happy to take suggestions.

When and if you read these moments, please bear in mind that they aren't necessarily meant to see the light of day as they are written. Outside of the snippets I'll be grabbing to use in my novel.

Friend, I recommend first, to write all the idea on one sentence that explain all the story. Its is call premise.

by example:
Sara decide to change her life moving to beach, with her grandpa a tai chi master.

Then it divide on ten chapters.
example

chapter one- Sara description and her need to change
and so long.

This one is the best book about this theme.
