I Am Woman : Forum : is it just me?

is it just me?

Am I the only one, reading poetry late at night, who stumbles upon a website and is half scared to death when music is suddenly blasted at me (at top volume)... does anyone else think that music on a webpage that you can't choose to turn on by your own action is just rude? I can't tell you how many times I've been surfing Writer's Cafe and I want to read a poem or a story and I end up getting the fright of my life, followed by me scrambling for the pause button! Does anyone else find music a distraction when trying to choose a poem or story or lyrics to read? Don't get me wrong, I love music, I just think there should be a time and a place or an option to hit "Play" if you want to listen! I'm not an old grump, I'm just not a fan of late night heart attacks lol. I find myself wanting to give a review and actually sighing because I have to go to this person's page and be submitted to their brand of music! Is it just me?

I Like music on the pages, it is interesting to see what the different writers like to listen to. Sometimes I surf sites at night too, and as a precaution i just swuitch off the volume.. , to save me from such a fright, and not to wake anybody up unwanted ;)

well, i kinda like the music on the pages... i even found a few new songs that i kinda like (or some oldies that i forgot about) ... there are ways to get around it... either hit the little pause button on the music player or turn the speakers down...

Hehe, yes, thats what I always forget to do - turn down the volume! Just amused at the way I launch three feet off my chair *every time* :)

haha... sometimes that happens to me too... i swear the people at work play with the volume on my speakers... and all the sudden something comes blarring out -- and i am like ::suprised:: AHHH!

I keep my speakers off. I forget that I even have music on my own page because I have the speakers turn off so much. LOL It only took once for to see that there are those moments that I could easyily die. LOL When I see a song playing or it is a evoca piece, it is then when I turn on my speakers. LOL

i agree there should be an option to listen, not auto start as soon as you load the page. normally i'm already listening to something while reading. usually classical or jazz lol what bites is being on dial up which is already snails pace when there are a ton of graphics AND music to accompany a poem, story or article. in these cases i just move along to the next one.

faerie blessings...

And now I'm feeling bad for having a background and music playing on my page. I forgot about the people on dial up. To be honest...I kinda forgot dial up still existed.

And I'm perfectly willing to admit that I've actually fallen off a chair after being surprised by music late one night. That was really embarrassing and my fiance still laughs about it.

I didn't think about dial up either. Well I will see about what I can do about my page. It needs a revamping anyway. LOL

No matter what web site I visit, I want the option of listening, or not, to whatever music happens to be on that site, and it annoys me when music plays the instant I click onto a web site without my doing anything.  And nine times out of ten, it's music I don't even like!  I know I sound like a crank, but I just think it's inconsiderate.  If you want to listen to your kind of music, fine, but don't push it on everyone else in the world.
