a day in the life...
a day in the life...18 Years AgoSort of typical day for Surly and Old 3:30 AM
Wake up. Mentally assess various components of somatic self Realize that I am still living. Become aware that accumulated waste fluids must be released soon. Find spectacles on nightstand Kick cat off bed. (Sometimes two. Never all three.) Lurch out of bedroom. Close door quietly to preserve wife's slumber Stumble into bathroom. Transfer fluids mentioned above to appropriate receptacle. Turn on computer while dressing. Make tea (first of three 20 oz mugs) Let third cat in.
4:00 AM Start reading online New York Times, saving articles of interest to personal archive. Let third cat out. Eat banana and peanut butter sandwich (crunchy PB) Continue reading NYT Make 2nd mug of tea. Determine what cat #2 is bitching about. Take appropriate action: feed or let out. Finish NYT. Save Start on correspondence
6:00 AM Morning chores: Restore bird feeder to place in tree (It's taken down each evening to forestall raccoon raids) Open up chicken coop. Issue morning expletives to chickens, particularly to the useless rooster. Grain and Hay the horses. Issue leftover expletives or not, depending on mood and weather. Feed dogs. No expletives. (At least they pretend to like me)
6:30 AM Read something in the bathroom. Re-heat 2nd mug of tea. Finish correspondence
7:30 AM Take brief nap. Comfort cat #1. She is 17 years old and trying to die. She may need some help someday Continue editing and critiquing friend's novel (It's very good. She used to be my writing professor in college) Stop when wife wakes up Find that we have company coming this weekend. Plan and begin executing campaign to shovel out the house. (This is weeklong project) Drop into computer room to check mail, edit stuff, and even write stuff at odd moments during the day. Occasionally I hit the exercise machines in the cellar. (I have a slight muffin-top problem)
3:30 PM Start making supper. (NB: Wife works, I'm retired. She brings home the bacon, I fry it. Seems fair to me.) Watch BBC news
7:00 PM Evening chores: Similar to morning chores, with some elements reversed. Work on Excel spreadsheet (current project) to create auto-solver for sudoku puzzles. Check mail and network sites. Shower or not, depending on phase of moon and level of depression. Read in bed until I fall asleep. Dream polychromatically while light is on: When wife, who stays up much later than me, turns off light, dreams become monochromatic. So far, that subconscious oddity seems peculiar to me. I've not encountered anyone else who has noticed a chromatic transformation in their dreams. A too-comfortable routine, really. I chaff, but age and approaching infirmity (ies) prohibit anything more adventuresome than fantasizing. Cheers, Surly and Old |

[no subject]18 Years AgoWell, that was a nice thing to read, I may borrow this for my own blog this week, since ideas prevale me. Is that even the right word? Hmmm, probably wrong spelling, dictionary seems to have grown legs and run away from me this week. Seems like a long day to me, I mean, 3.30 AM wake up! I am still in noddy land at that time. Well, I think I like a day in your life hun. XX
