Zac Matthews always hated labels, whether positive or negative but it’s tough to escape them when you’re only 4’8”, a champion wrestler and the strongest person in your weight class at every powerlifting meet. Then Zac’s adoptive parents die in a car crash and he’s denied the chance to follow in his footsteps as a soldier because of his height. Things quickly spiral out of control as Zac is accused of assault and battery. He battles prejudice and defies convention as he journeys to Georgia hoping to find a career path and prove that he is A Different Kind of Giant.

This novel was born out of series of stories I told my son while driving around town. It was influenced by our love of the television shows “Pit Boss” and “Little People, Big World” as well as my experiences as an amateur powerlifter and watching my four boys wrestle. I also drew heavily on my experiences as an immigrant and a former U.S. Marine Martial Arts Instructor. As there are very few heroic depictions of Little People it is difficult to draw direct parallels but I believe this series would appeal to fans of Tammara Webber’s “Easy”, Robert B. Parker’s “Chasing The Bear: A Young Spenser Novel” and the Pit Boss television show.

I have covered digital media issues for Digital Media Buzz a business facing webzine as well as pieces for The Chattanooga Times and Associated Content. “A Different Kind of Giant” is my first novel but it is written to leave room for a sequel if there is sufficient demand.
