Re: Writer's Block, inspiration please?12 Years AgoHey Megz,
I suggest you brainstorm, brainstorm, and brainstorm. The best way that I get over writer's block is write (or type..) down everything that comes to mind and NEVER say "no" to anything. If you try to critique and write (or brainstorm) at the same time you risk writer's block (at least I do). Just to drive the point home, here's a quote: "First, and most important, we writers have to know how to create--hot to shut off the internal editor, and write exactly what pops into our heads as it arrives. Second, we have to know how to critique. This is the part where we decide what stays and what goes. What could be said better or what's just superfluous. The trick, ladies and gents, is that your brain cannot create and critique simultaneously. And if you try you'll get stuck. The infamous 'writer's block'." - Rebecca T. Dickson The Definitive Guide to Writing on Your Terms Using Your Own Honest-to-God Gut-Wrenching Voice (Yes, that's a real book) Hope that helped! |

Re: Writer's Block, inspiration please?12 Years AgoIt's always important to take breaks, but like all writers we never truly stop working because we notice everything. Get inspired by everything you see, don't try to force ideas and just go with the flow. Everything holds a story, just remember to keep your eyes open. ;)

Re: Writer's Block, inspiration please?12 Years AgoThe best way to get back into the swing of things is to sit down and write, break through that creative shell and get down a few pages of anything (Writing prompts help a whole lot with this). Use larger fonts and more spaced out text so you can see what you are writing more clearly. Reading a lot helps too. Read a short story or about twenty to thirty pages of your favorite book at night before you go to bed and write in the morning.
Also, don't worry too much about coming up with a new story idea. The best ideas come when you least expect it, they sort of crash down onto your head and you're like "Wow! How the hell did that happen!?". The last thing you want to do is to force an idea that is not entirely yours. You will be spending a lot of time on this idea, you will live with it. It's easier to live with your child than someone else's I guarantee it. |
