Don Imus...???
Don Imus...???19 Years AgoForgive or Forget????????
Was Don Imus's fate of being fired just and worthy or was it over the top?......People argue that he should be undoubtedly forgiven, however the "Rutger's Case" was not his first offense......One argument was even brought up that if something along the lines of what Imus said were to be put into a 'rap lyric' is would be acceptable....Others say that if a 'Black' person would have made racial comments about a group of young white college girls, the issue would be much bigger and treated more severely...... What are some of your thoughts and opinion??? |

[no subject]19 Years AgoWhat a lot of people don't know is that Don Imus' show is actually a comedic radio show, and he tried to justify his comments by saying that what he said was made in a comedic fashion...Now with that being said...F**k Don Imus...If Kramer (a comedian) is outta control when he shouts profanities at black hecklers in a comedy club (a much smaller venue than public airwaves), then Imus is way beyond outta control. He has said comments like this SEVERAL times. And everytime they are followed by a half-hearted apology, and a slap on the wrist. Obviously he's not learning from the previous punishments. It doesn't matter if the rap community uses comments like that...You can't even compare the two...If a rapper, in the contents of a rap song, refers to women as hoes (which i still feel is unacceptable), he is talking about the women in the song. When Don Imus is refering to Rutgers basketball team as "knappy-headed hoes," he is refering to 15 young women who he has never met, and is demeaning and embarassing them and there families on public airwaves. It is absolutely unacceptable. And the thing that really pisses me off about this is that Imus is probably gonna get another job on satelite radio, where racism will probably spew outta his mouth...It makes me sick to my stomach

What about Jesse and Al?19 Years AgoWhere Imus and the rest of the conservative media machine went wrong was in trying to downplay his comments in the year of youtube. Previously he got away with it because MSNBC didnt rerun the video for other stations to pick up and blast them with. Imus apology appears to be heartfelt. But appearances can be misleading so it was good he got hit where he really feels his wallet. Regardless if a music artist uses a vulgar term to degrade women in the context of a song, remember it is a SONG. A work of ART. Imus threw his a*s in front of a moving train when he sat on a show that spins conservative viewpoints and only becomes a comedy when he makes bad jokes of liberal ones. Bah
The true question I pose is what gives Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson the right to be the mouthpiece for Black America? Al and Jesse served there purpose. Now theyre hindering our progress. As soon as they speak White America tunes them out. Its time they turn it overTheyve given the cause 40 years of service. Can someone give them a gold pocket watch and tell them to get out of the way of people like Tavis Smiley and Cornell West They do a much better job articulating the position and they verbally fire with both guns then Academically DARE someone to question them. Maybe THAT should be a thread of it's own... |
