Darkness had spread. It silently crept into the cracks, slowly seeping throughout the corners of the city. The night had disguised itself, hidden under a soft velvet blanket of Prussian blue. It was only the few thousands of stars, that acted as hairpins to the night. The balls of light scattered for miles, binding the dark blanket to the heavens. It was these strands of diamonds in the sky, a thousand heroes. They kept the moon from bearing heavy the burden, of holding up the sky. A breath taking chill numbed the air, it was the only thing to accompany the violent undertone of the City. The moon began its tread over the earth, observing from afar. Sometimes it would swim through the sky. Peeking in through the clouds, daring to come closer, but this was not often. The Moon had seen to much corruption, too much death. It no longer wished to looked upon this City. It had grown weary and annoyed with it's civilization, but yet. It would still watch night after night. Gazing upon a growing world, it had to. The stars had their jobs and the moon had its own role to play. Besides without the moon the burden would have fell to the Sun, and the Sun was known to be one who carried a fiery temper. Winds whistled sharply over the skyscrapers, they dashed through the alleys in a frenzy. Only the assortment of fallen leaves and scattered litter, dared to take chase. Empty crisp packets and soda cans, gained a head start as every breeze passed. Neck in neck with each other, as they darted throughout the City. They twirled, riding upon the lord's breath. Dancing and skipping through the narrow alleyways, as if children at play. Only when they came to the most treacherous part of Ebony City. Where many of its civilians dared not to go, did the soda can and crisp packet grind slowly to a halt. Almost as if knowing, this was not hallow ground. The good did not tread here. It was only a few yards away, in the middle of a rusty park, that a woman sat on a bench. Her bright red hair illuminated her dull surroundings, almost bringing colour to the grey and rust ridden park she had chose to occupy. She was very tall, and also very thin. Her slender glasses sat at the end of what seemed like, an almost ridiculously long nose. She simply stood puffing out heavy smoke clouds, every so often looking to observe her watch. |
