Plan and Track {Time}
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
By Alan Lakein.
What a nice words from Alan. This blog post is about how I failed miserably in my initial technical and logical test for graduate job position at Endava because of no planning . Let me tell you the whole story about this short journey. I hope some of you can learn from my mistakes. Let me go back a month, I was searching Endava’s career portal for available jobs because I am looking for a job. I discovered that they have a vacant graduate role in Skopje office. I decided to apply for the position happily and hoping that I will get interview mail. But I did not receive anything for about one  and half a week. I went back to their career portal to see what is happening with my application (status). All it written was accepting application. All I said to myself, “Damn!” Then I optimistly thought they may contact me later (because I am a extra ordinary individual).
After two weeks, they rang my phone. As usual, the phone was with my girlfriend and at that point, she was at work as well. Even though, they did not reach me through phone and they wrote a mail to confirm my attendance for the initial test. You can see the mail in the left side to this text. I responded them, Yes straight-away. Here come the test day. The general overview about the test. But I did not know about it before hand. The test consisted of 5 parts; logical, programming, database, testing and software development process called Scrum. We had to complete the test in 90 minutes even though each section had quite a number of questions. On top of all, it requires thinking and a lot of thinking.  It was daunting task though. But it can manageable through proper planning. That’s where I failed. Once I got the question paper, I was super duper excited. One of the two person from Endava specifically mentioned, go over the question paper first because there are five sections, choose which you know the most first.  Then I went over the question paper and blindly thought that I can complete it on time. But I did not plan.
A man who does not plan long ahead will find trouble at his door
I immediately started answering questions from programming part (My first mistake). I was even answering elaborately to each question with an example (who asked for example? BTW). That was very bad mistake (lesson learned). I could not stick to the point (answer briefly) rather I went on to answer lengthy. But I now have no way to go back and change it right?. Anyway It took a lot of my time. Some of them required time, for instance four programming exercises those things required a bit of thinking, transformation of thinking into code and writing it on a paper also required time as well.
Those who make the worst of their time most complain about its shortness.
By La Bruyere. By the way, I do not complain about the time frame of the exam but my inability to plan and manage time at all. To be honest, the test is manageable to finish in 90 minutes. The key to my failing today is I did not track the time. Keep tracking of time during any kind of activities is a key for success in the activity. Actually I did not dishearten by this fail. But I am happy that I have learned about planning, time tracking and their consequences today. I am a progressive thinker and belief in growth mindset. Meaning I favour in terms of change and improvement; have a belief that every situation teaches me something important to take to my future. This is one of the situation. If you reading this blog post, all I can say is, make sure whatever activities you engage in plan your actions for specific time frame before you start and then track the time. These are two key pointers for gaining complete control over activities. Otherwise activities will control you like it did to me.  Even though, I am awaiting for the result of the test. I thought writing about this, will help me to see the problem in broader domain.
