A Good Bye

Reluctant to walk this path
yet knew the day would come
To let all go and fall away --
a loss that has no end.

The past slips, its colors fade,
I try to pull it back,
as with a heavy, large blanket
that has fallen to the floor.

But sadly, it disappears,
leaving only memories.
Pictures forming now
in tender tears and talk.

An acceptance of this even
remotely being real
only leaves the question:
what ever will be next?
