Day one.

Day one.

A Chapter by -Insertnamehere-

Click. A flame. It breathes across the end of the paper, eating away at the drug my limbs danced with. I put the dying cigarette to my thin cracked lips. Inhale. A sigh of complete and utter relief. Legs spread out along my piss stained mattress, I watch the smoke try to escape the tiny walls I had trapped myself in. No such luck. I scratch long white lines up and down my legs, eager to please the itching some unknown bugs had caused me. I bring the cigarette back to my lips. Inhale. A loud banging starts on my door and I close my eyes slowly, feeling uneasy. I stand up and straighten my long shirt over my panties, throwing my long brown wavy hair over my shoulder as I did. I take another breathe on my cigarette before I padlock my door. My intention was to lock it and then walk back right where I had been before, but then the person on the other side spoke.
"Daisy! I know you're in there. Will you open the door?"
I lick my dry lips and turn my head back around to face the door. My body is unmoving.
"What do you want Chester?" The first half of that comes out as a whisper. I clear my throat. "What do you want?" I repeat.
"For you to open the god damn door and stop ignoring me. I've called you at least five times today."
"That's a record," I say, rolling my eyes. I lean against the wall by the door and take another shot at my cigarette.
"You know you want to let me in."
"It's funny how you seem to know what I want."
"God damn it!" I hear fists slam into the door. "You aren't listening to me!"
"And why should I?" My heart speeds up. I don't want him outside my door anymore.
"Because I didn't f*****g cheat on you all right? She came on to me, I swear to God."
I take a deep breath and unlatch the door, opening it all the way. I watch as his dark eyes look through my attire and then up to my face. His black hair is mussed, and stubble peaks out from his olive skin.
"You don't even believe in God," I say angrily. I walk back into my small living space and put my finished cigarette into the ashtray. I feel his breath on my neck as I beat the butt into the cold metal bowl.
"I'd believe in God for you baby."
   I turn away from him.
"Come on Daisy, are you gonna forgive me or what?"
"That's how this always goes," I say, grabbing a couple of empty beer bottles and placing them by the trash. I always cleaned when I was going to say something upsetting. "You cheat on me, say it isn't so, and I'm stupid enough to believe your s****y lies. Then the process starts all over again." I turn to face him and cross my arms over my chest. "I'm tired of feeling like the third wheel in a two person relationship."
"You say such bullshit Daisy girl. You know you love me." His eyes are little slits now.
"Not enough to let you take over me." I bite my lip. "Now get out."
   "What?" His muscles flex.
"Get out." I force the fear down my throat.
"If you hadn't wanted me back you wouldn't have left the door open for me, honey." His Spanish accent starts to reveal itself, and I know he's starting to get angry.
"And now I'm closing it, honey." My eyes sting.
   "Are you mocking me?"
   "Who cares if I am?"
   "Daisy?"
I almost scream. My mother and father turn around the corner. My mother's eyes are wide as she sees what a mess my place is, and then they get even wider when she sees Chester.
"Mom." I lock my jaw. "Dad. What are you guys doing here?"
"We came to check on how you were doing. We hadn't heard from you in a while...." She looks around and stops when she sees the phone line is unplugged. She smooths her neatly ironed button up with her hands and clears her throat.
"Who are you?" My dad looks like a giant next to Chester.
"Chester." He stands up straighter, looking my dad up and down. "I'm your daughters boyfriend."
"No you're not," I huff. "Get the f**k out, I already told you once."
   "Fine. But I'll be back."
"No you won't." My dad's voice is hard.
Chester sneers before leaving my small one room apartment.
My mother clears her throat again. "I thought you were going to get some furniture to put in here?"
   "I'm a little broke."
"We gave you money Daisy," my dad says. "We gave you money to help you get started with school and furniture and a home."
"I spent it all." I fumble around in my bed sheets and find a cigarette. I light it. Inhale.
"I don't like it when you smoke."
I exhale and look at my mother. "This is my house, I'll do whatever I want."
"This isn't a house, this a dilapidated room." My dad furrows his eyebrows. "How could you have spent all that money already?"
   Inhale. "Oops." Exhale.
"Oops?" My dad looks like he's going to say something else but my mom interrupts.
"Daisy we love you. We just don't understand why you are the way you are, or why you do the things you do."
"That's because you don't give a s**t mom. You never did."
"Be fair. You never contributed to a relationship either." She sighs. "I see we've caused an intrusion. Come on Bill, let's go."
My father looks around the room again before following my mother out the door. When I hear it click closed, I collapse onto my mattress, taking a deep breath on my cigarette. I close my eyes.
It only took one glance,
to know that it was true.
That everything I could ever want,
resided inside of you.
Every little touch from your skin,
sends chills down my spine.
And every single kiss from your lips,
Makes me want to stop time.
    Bullshit.
