Shadow DancingA Story by Kristin Brecoe
There was a shadow in the distance, as the music soared into the midnight sky. Drummers thundered a tune, followed by woodwinds breathing into the wind. Strings sparkled like stars. The shadow twisted his body to follow the melody. The melody of the night time sky, the melody of the unexpected. This human distantly drew himself back, as if to breathe in the rich air. He prepared himself for the lightning. As it struck, his feet flew to the sound of the flute. The pace so fast I felt its magic from miles away. Curiosity brought me closer. The music began to swell around me. I lost all of my own will. As the instruments drew me in, a tingle of spirits lifted me up, treating me like their puppet. Gradually, I found my place among the dancing shadow. I noticed his motions were smooth, but his expression not. He did not dance with the passion and joy as I saw from yonder. He too was strung on string and played with. I, because of curiosity, am too. © 2008 Kristin BrecoeAuthor's Note
