Deaf Dumb Done

Deaf Dumb Done

A Poem by John K.

Don't look at me;

I've never been.

I am the highest form

of the lowest common denominator

and I know how to disappear completely

It's not that hard-

all you have to do is look at the sidewalk

eyes trained down constantly

and it will absorb you

in it's muted gray shade.

It's not that hard-

all you have to do

is blame the sun

for not shining hard enough

and find your shadow

hold it as close as your shame

It's kind of funny-

all I needed was a hand

to hold mine

and I could have climbed to the top of Olympus

and screamed myself into existence.

-but people like me, we don't come in pairs.

So, instead, I'll walk

invisible, inaudible, unreal

with my head turned down

to the concrete

until I get to the edge of the world

and jump.

you look down at the sidewalk and you disappear,
are you saying that interaction with surroundings is what makes us tangible to the rest of society?
nice write.
please don't jump,
words were not meant to be wasted.

wow this is a brilliant poem! so many can relate. your feelings of being invisible, insignificant are so well described. i love the imagery here. "all you have to do is look at the sidewalk eyes trained down constantly
and it will absorb you in it's muted gray shade." & "and find your shadow hold it as close as your shame". but my favorite is the last 2 lines. this is definitely one of my favorites. its an amazing poem of an emotion so many of us share.
