Metamorphosis

how have i departed so much

from the happy girl i used to be?

so many people forced her into 

growing up

so many things pushed her down

she is now a butterfly with tattered wings

a sunflower that never blossomed

she was so scared

she was the only one she could rely on 

the only one that cared

she figured it out

as she always does

just a little sunflower

all alone

with her tears and thoughts

curled up as tight as she could

to make everything go away

in her twin bed with a floral quilt

not a little sunflower anymore

the only one proud of her

is her future self

and i am proud of her
