The Silence

The Silence

A Poem by Olivia Danielle
"

"I can't fail you."

"

I listen to your words

Through the phone

I go through the motions

I tell you I love you

I`ll always be here for you

There is good to life

You tell me you love me

We hang up

Today I told you I loved you

I`d always be here for you

There is good to life

You were silent

You told me you weren't sure

If you could go on

My heart sank

I searched in my mind

For anything I could say to you

To ease the pain

To hear you tell me you love me

To take the burden off my shoulders

But you were a burden I loved with all my heart

And would do anything for

I cursed myself for calling you a burden

Acid burned in my chest

I waited longingly for you to say you loved me

I needed assurance everything was going to be alright

I can't fail you

I can't lose you

While running through my thoughts

You were silent on the other end

something piercing.. left untouched.. unbroken.. & shattered but also unspoken...

The utter pain and rawness in this poem is amazing. The sinking feeling is so intensely palpable, and we've all felt it before. The hurt, the unsureness, the roughness. It was just full of so much emotions and I adore the way you write!

Filled with brittle angst as you describe in free verse the passage of this telephone conversation. You capture the desperation, hurt and confusion well.
