death cannot be robbed

death cannot be robbed

A Poem by laika

death cannot be robbed

only staved off

shaved, lost

for a moment only

false forgotten

you can steal death in the middle of the night on october 3rd and think you’ve gotten away with it

but it will track us down, those who are still here

cracked palms reaching, as a beggar

calling for inherited penance

death is a debt collector

and every night it raps on my door

it seeps and sops and says it’s sorry

without a touch, it leaves me sunken on the bed

I look around my lovely house and know there is something missing

I no longer live in a room that has seen you
