Twenty-One

Twenty-One

A Poem by C.

sun rises
moon falls
you lay on the floor
of these rusty halls

you grip the air
like there’s something to hold
you hear the screams
but won’t do what you’re told

run, scream, twenty-one
drink, fall, sink
love like a lunatic
burn like a candlestick

keep your glass full
you won’t feel a thing
twenty-one you feel its sting

moon rises
sun falls
everyone else soars
and you hit the walls

run, scream, twenty-one
drink, fall, sink
night’s over in a blink
can’t remember, gotta rethink

keep your glass full
you won’t feel a thing
twenty-one you feel its sting

bloody knuckles
stranger touches
can’t find your feet
don’t know what your hand clutches

blurry vision
mind’s a mess
you feel so much less
you better redress

run, scream, twenty-one
drink, fall, sink
you just want to shrink
eyes stained pink

run, scream, twenty-one
drink, fall, fight
lose your appetite
twenty-one doesn’t feel alright

sun rises
moon falls
you lay on the floor
of these rusty halls

you grip the air
like there’s something to hold
you hear the screams
and do what you’re told

Author's Note

C.
I haven't written a decent in poem in 2 years. Everything I tried to write was always forced. I never felt it. Everything I've been holding back just burst itself into this poem. I don't know where it came from - I was just listening to Chandelier by Sia and got an incredibly huge urge to write all of a sudden, something I haven't fully experienced, like I said, in 4 years. It's honestly my favorite thing I have ever written. I hope you like it as well.
