the idea process

I put all my ideas in a pot

swirl them round and round

steaming the cells of my mind

until each idea slowly starts to jell

a poem, a song, a story,

Then I strain them

cool them on a pen

until they are ready to be served for mass consumption

The process is enchanting. It's hard to pick out a certain part as my favourite because the poem is so dependent on itself . . . But I'd say the last line is something I'll remember, how we really are cooking up these thoughts, straining them and forming them to ship out to the public. Some of us are an acquired taste, though . . .
