But A Dream

But A Dream

A Poem by AJNJ
"

Dreams are lies

"

Dreams as clear as glass

On crystal blue lakes

You on the other side

Of a lost forever daybreak

Telling me the impossible

Will always be beautiful

Its colors will never fade

Mislaid memories as fawns

Flutter awake at dawn

Rousing Morpheus’s curse

In a witch’s tinted mirror

Where it’s all in reverse

I run away from you

To stay tethered to you

I lose you to find you

On chessboard journeys

To the middle of nowhere

You on a train to somewhere

That I can never catch

In a hypnotic rush or dash

You roll away, fleeting as a spell

Life, what is it but a dream?

Love is over in a flash

As someone that can snooze through an Earthquake, dreams are not something that I can relate to. I never have them, such is my state of deep sleep, but many do have dreams and quite often they are mixed fragments of both subconcious and concious thoughts. Your poem certainly reads like a dream in itself. The loosely flowing rhyme and lines are very suitable to your theme. Your dream here seems to question the promises and words of another. They seem as foggy as a morning mist and the poet cannot seem to grasp these promises no matter where he chases them. Should he listen to the dream and follow the dream or accept it for just what it is and go on living his reality? It's a deep poem, P, and one that needs some serious consideration to interpret. Much as dreams do themselves. I enjoyed the poem with its literary references and its own dreamlike quality of style. It's a most interesting poem, dear, P. Much enjoyed, as always! :))

This conjoured up so many memorable images... with almost a 21st century Alice in Wonderland feel to it.. one to be savoured certainly, but not taken late with belly full of strong cheese.....
