"Star Wars" Haiku

Five haiku poems inspired by the "Star Wars" original trilogy

a rising son
travels over Tattooine dunes
a new hope

a shady Hutt
under burning desert skies
a Falcon takes wing

.

busy troopers speeding by
stop under the forest canopy
never seeing the trees

.

sudden migration
a secluded winter too short
AT-ATs lumber through snowdrifts

a quiet family bonfire
distant revels on a summer night
mourning comes soon

Author's Note

I've learned that while English-language haiku doesn't have to follow the 5-7-5 syllable patterns that may have been taught in school, the idea of invoking nature and seasons and experiences strongly is still the essence of haiku poetry.

I also love puns and double meanings, so I tried to craft that evocation of the seasons while alluding to "Star Wars" so that one can read or hear it (mostly) without context and still come away with the sensations haiku should embody.

This is a fantastic haiku, certainly one of my favorites given the subject matter. The fact that I was able to easily connect the writing with images in my head made for quite the enjoyable read. Excellent work :)

I will never f**k with fan fiction. Not even in this case with fan fiction poetry, which normally I would call a sin. And multi-haiku? F**k you dude.
