Small Pieces of Paper

Small Pieces of Paper

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Small Pieces of Paper

Waiting with the fever
of anticipation,
patience,
is not my strong suit.

Looking for a letter
baring a soul,
or an hourglass
wrapped in red velvet.

The initial rush
of pleasant anxious feeling,
heart pounding
like a piston,
down through the toes,
past the walls
of this tiny room.

And I’m scared.

And I'm excited.

Tearing up this poem
putting small pieces of paper
in my pocket,
hiding my eyes
from the sun,
or anyone else.

Because they're smiling.

Maybe for the first time.

The middle finger I can do without, but you did a really nice job on this poem. I can feel the emotion in this and the ending is like a good payoff. Nice one Abigale.
