Wimbledon 1989: Becker-Lendl [Diorama!]A Story by Abishai100Fan diorama piece toasting the symbolic 1989 Wimbledon men's tennis matchup (Becker-Lendl), which inspires 'dollhouse' ideas!
A magical fan-nod to the great and legendary Wimbledon 1989 Semifinal matchup between the celeb-superstars in men's tennis, Ivan Lendl (Czechoslovakia's 'iron-man') and Boris Becker (Germany's 'mad-genius'). The timeless Becker-Lendl (head-to-head) modern rivalry produced incredible tennis, and this one was the best arguably, and I've likened it to the diagonal themes presented in the unforgettable/searing 'heat' novel A Separate Peace (John Knowles), a toast to human drawing. Enjoy!

==== Wimbledon in London (England, UK) is an idyllic place in Europe and the site of the annual iconic Grand Slam men's tennis tournament (July). In 1989, two heavyweights in international men's tennis squared off in the famous Wimbledon semifinal match. Wimbledon in London was forever canonized. ![]() My name's Amlan Satan, and I'm covering this tennis-sports fanfare 'diorama' with my wife Esmerelda who's also a sports-writer. She and I are both fans of the two heavyweights who squared off against each other in the iconic 1989 Wimbledon Semifinal, Boris Becker (Germany) and Ivan Lendl (Czechoslovakia). I'm a Becker nut, while Esmerelda is a Lendl fan supreme. ![]() ESMERELDA: We're keeping this diorama write-up in a time-capsule safe-box in the UK for memory! ![]() Now, the area surrounding the fair Wimbledon in London is a great place, and one might see why tennis fans flock to a place like this in Europe to gaze upon the prestigious men's tennis championships! ![]() ESMERELDA: Ivan Lendl (Czechoslovakia) was the first and only real 'iron-man' of men's tennis and this is my toast to him! ![]() AMLAN: The Wimbledon tennis stadium, especially center court, in London, is something of a marvel, friends! ![]() Becker was already an established champion/heavyweight in men's tennis when this 1989 Semifinal match came around, and he'd be put to the real test if he wanted to advance to the 1989 Final match. He'd already won a Wimbledon title, so much was expected of this 'mad genius' of Germany. ![]() Lendl, likewise, had also reaped many honors/laurels and wanted to challenge the mad Becker with signature calm/cool. ![]() AMLAN: This matchup has the philosophy-aesthetics re-presented in John Knowles' A Separate Peace! ESMERELDA: The idea/story of friends rifted with competition and creating deep thoughts is timeless. AMLAN: The Becker-Lendl matchup in Wimbledon [1989] serves as a toast to intellectual fervor of competition. ESMERELDA: And deep thoughts (about 'symbolic' brothers). ![]() The match started with Becker coming out ahead in a gripping and tight first-set win 7-5 against the indomitable Lendl. ![]() Lendl seemed like he's brooding about contending with the mad German but stormed back with 2 consecutive sets. ![]() Now, with Becker down 2-1 in sets, after having Set 1 (7-5) but losing Set 2 (6-7) and Set 3 (2-6), Becker needed to reach deep to quell the 'quiet storm' of the great Ivan Lendl who'd arguably been the 'perfect' foil to Becker's 'mad genius' style of wild and unpredictably creative form of men's tennis, offering great consistent laser-like court performance. Would Becker now find re-composure? ![]() The great Boris Becker did so. He won the final 2 sets 6-4, 6-3, defeating his new rival Ivan Lendl. Becker would be canonized in sports-media, and he'd go on to win more titles/laurels, but this 1989 Semifinal matchup with Lendl would prove to be a crowning glory, since Lendl's his perfect foil, right? ![]() Ivan Lendl meanwhile would also be canonized and considered immortal in his men's tennis career, and despite the losing effort against the mad Becker, the resilient-and-cool Lendl would earn all types of sports fanfare and credits to his name and celebrity! ![]() AMLAN: This diorama was a perfect achievement in media fanfare, darling. ESMERELDA: I'll never forget what Lendl taught us about the quiet resolve of men's tennis! ![]() AMLAN: Becker is like a stealth wild ninja-robot of horned creativity. ESMERELDA: Well, then, Lendl is the ace-calm space-robot pilot serving as the ideal 'dream' foil to Becker. ![]() What this diorama reveals is the general human flair for celebrating human activity and competitive consciousness and brotherly imagination, a sort of 'cartoon' of the realism behind man's embracing of fitness...and dreams...and diaries! ![]() AMLAN: Should I be jealous of Lendl, darling? ESMERELDA: Why? ==== "Money is everything" (Ecclesiastes) © 2021 Abishai100 |
