Chicago is a city of great drama, and it's where an underground diamond-thief and underworld figure named Carlito is about to be released from prison after serving a 5-year sentence for his involvement in the robber-gang known as Red Hood, or apparent involvement; now, the relatively young but seasoned and reform-minded Carlito seeks a new life of spiritualism in Chicago. He wants to simply reintegrate himself into American life.

CARLITO: My life from my past was all about the dollar-insanity of the underworld and youthful delusions; it's just the past.

Carlito became something of a 'legend' in the Chicago underworld with a reputation for being a sort of Robin Hood from the dark-side or wrong-side of the proverbial American tracks. Algerian-born and US citizen now, Carlito's promised his legal consultant and his friends that he's seeking to put behind him images of himself as a Windy City pirate.

CARLITO: This city was mean and still is; I want to forget about Red Hood and think about a legitimate venture to reinvent!

The legal process for the daring Chicago-man Carlito was something of an extraordinary drama, and he promised the judge listening to his case that he was earnestly seeking to forget his previous life of apparent underworld involvements or 'links' and seek a legitimate business venture in the Windy City, offering the modern US city a promise of legal dreams of new millennium capitalism!

CARLITO: We all have our demons; but I consider myself a man-of-reform, and I believe I look the part now too.

His wife Asha at first didn't believe him or in him, but her new life of fashion-modeling affords her a special security feeling and allowed her perhaps to entreat a romance-sensibility and so she forgave her pirate-man and now thinks he's really/truly trying to offer her the sanity of marriage; she continues to love him and waits for him to make more great decisions each day at work.

CARLITO: We now own/operate a legitimate Chicago night-club with the backing of some 'past' pals who've turned the leaf.

CARLITO: Davey, I don't want this part in your new 'legalese jargon' problems with blood-diamonds, pal.

DAVEY: Carlito, this blood-diamond bank heist in Chicago will stamp us as vigilante-heroes in the Windy City!

CARLITO: If this falls apart, Asha will never forgive me, man!
DAVEY: I promise; everything will be as smooth as Halloween squash-soup.

Davey is Carlito's long-time legal consultant-friend who'd used to advise him in underworld profiteerism matters prior to his spiritual jail-reform experience, and how he's thinking he's drawing his Carlito buddy back into a last-venture of criminal 'heroics' involving a blood-diamond heist of a ruthless Irish baron's safe-box in Chicago. Carlito's thinking to himself, "That Davey's got such a sweet-smile and I wanna believe in him, but I can't help for myself (and Asha) to feel this is the wrong-way decision or turn in my life; he's got a sweet-face and a tragic criminal destiny I fear; I wonder where he's taking me now."

Carlito and Davey bust into the Chicago bank in maudlin-thespian masks/costumes and wield water-guns filled with acid and steal blood-diamonds form Sierra Leone from the bank's safe-box belonging to the ruthless baron Goldfinger. They then make their way to the train-station to escape to New England and meet up with Asha. The bank heist was a success, thank goodness.

CARLITO: Davey was shot in the train-station by Goldfinger's goons, but I boarded my escape-train to Paradise.

Carlito never made it to New England, and rumors flew his disappearance after his reform-declaration was caused by the baron Goldfinger. This is really a story of modern American dreams...gone diary.
