Nigerian Gold: A Soccer Detention

Nigerian Gold: A Soccer Detention

A Story by Abishai100
"

Can media-splendor in 20th Century world-soccer generate the 'right stuff' for a now-troubled African nation?

"
An homage to sports (soccer), globalism, and positive new era journalism, inspired loosely by Invictus and Munich! Enjoy,

Nigeria has seen some serious political turmoil between the national government and the Boko Haram movement in the last decade or so, which has clouded the glorious sunlight it enjoyed in the late 20th Century (1990s!), when its national soccer team reached incredible heights at the World Cup ('94) and the Atlanta Summer Games ('96), bringing the iconic African country much desirable peace-lore.

A reporter working for the Bugle is in Nigeria assessing the legacy of that 1990s Nigerian 'magical' soccer-run which created much positive journalism/spotlight for the iconic African nation now enduring forms of darkness through political unrest. In fact, that soccer-media friendly era in the late 20th Century catalyzed much quality magazine-features and commercial tourism dollars and national economy marketing for Nigeria, which is why the Bugle reporter is evaluating 'enduring' forms of commercial 'limelight' in now-troubled Nigeria, looking at the African country's showcasing of magazine-fashion iconography branching out from the 1990s sports-media splendor conducive for modern diamonds.

The reporter, Amlan Satan, is a photojournalist, who's joining another American (female) journalist in Nigeria in this new century to investigate the continuing media-driven limelight markets of Nigeria created by that 1990s soccer-magic splendor (at the World Cup and Summer Games --- both held in the USA!). Amlan Satan believes that 'American dazzle' Nigeria created in the 1990s should/could be hailed as a 'media-grace' for the now struggling African country of disproportions.

SATAN (Amlan): Nigeria almost took down Maradona's Argentina team (favorite!) in the '94 World Cup in heavy Group D.

SATAN (Amlan): Nigeria then showed up proudly at the Summer Olympics (Atlanta, USA) where it defeated Argentina for gold!

The Nigerian press made a big deal of this 'American limelight' in world-soccer created by now-troubled Nigeria. This was a high-mark in soccer on the world-stage, since it highlights how social activities in this new era of globalism/media can enhance a new democratic 'aesthetic' for shared glories in culture-exchange...and peace.

SATAN (Amlan): Today's Boko Haram 'troubles' in Nigeria reflect a social need to 'augment' those peace-days of 1990s-soccer!

Now that Satan (Amlan) is paired with another American journalist in Nigeria, the two are finding new 'labyrinths' for media-and-globalism themed social news-storytelling affecting the 'natural outcomes' of new era globalism rhetoric and its impact on the 'human equation' of democracy (and entertainment!).

SATAN (Amlan): If we come away with a 'piece' of soccer-lore in this new-era trouble, we'll find the real gold.
