Chinese-Box: Chapter 2

The iconic Philly-Chinatown restaurant (Chinese-Box) prepares for an important business-meeting event, requiring Evan/Denise to be 'extra' divine.

Evan/Denise began preparing for a major event at their iconic Chinatown (Philadelphia) restaurant, Chinese-Box, when a toy-company from Boston (New England) was passing through, hoping to create a special ritual business-site eatery location for every pass through the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia). This toy-company from Boston, ActiVision, was seeking to make a new Philadelphia Eagles toy-merchandising compact with the New England Patriots, since the two iconic American pro-football teams had established a terrific rivalry since playing against each other in two whopping Super Bowls in the new millennium/era. ActiVision was hoping to create a passerby-transit/travel-tourism base in Chinatown (Philadelphia) so consumers/investors transiting between New England and Pennsylvania, linked to ActiVision, would have a common meeting pad(s) during their commercial activities. Chinese-Box suddenly would become a 'hot-spot' for this inter-state commercial jaunt.

Evan/Denise wanted to be sure this special/symbolic ActiVision investment in the Philadelphia area and Chinatown and Chinese-Box would be successful and create return-investment appeal and consumer-traffic marketability. They therefore made sure their appearance and demeanor for their waitstaff positions were high-mark/excellent and prepared to be top-notch servers/personnel at Chinese-Box for the 15-or-so ActiVision executives who'd be ready to feast on the iconic Philly-Chinatown restaurant's popular beef-miso, wonton-pork soup, and egg fried rice (etc.) dishes, perhaps with some Chinese wine(s). Evan/Denise thought about their training/education at Penn State (Philadelphia) regarding consumerism couture, the hospitality industry, and self-presentation for special convention. They thought about how best to present themselves as 'active' members of the Philadelphia business community.

EVAN: We're certain this will be a great chance to show our bosses we're great!
DENISE: It's not that easy being servers in an ethnic-dominant environment, ya know.

It wasn't easy. The all-Chinese kitchen staff were too busy to be kind to Evan/Denise who otherwise enjoyed chatting with the chefs/dishwashers while they'd been working. Tonight, during this very valuable ActiVision business visit/meeting, the kitchen staff was very laborious and treated Evan/Denise like they'd simply been working 'ghosts' at Chinese-Box. Evan/Denise of course had been prepared as working Irish-American siblings at Chinese-Box for just such a business-related ethnicity apathy at their restaurant, but they truly now felt the 'brush' or breeze of the cold winds of capitalism tonight at Chinese-Box. So, they opted in turn to remain simply diligent/active and pro-servers for the ActiVision 'event' at Chinese-Box. What they discovered tonight was that they'd come a long way from days at Penn State regarding a 'trafficked' education in human relations...and capitalism consciousness.

EVAN: Who'd think capitalism is all about robots?
DENISE: Well, at least we nailed the ActiVision contract.
