The US development team/unit had erected a special Arctic station called Zebra in the winter of 2022, and when they'd discovered a strange and large prehistoric 'dragon creature' buried in the ice, they called it the Leviathan, prompting much resource and personnel chat about the quality of Zebra research.

The main scientist-soldier on Ice Station Zebra (US) is Amlan Satan (code-name: Storm-Shadow) who's basically quite a bit of a staunch target-shooter and conservationist and conservative, always preferring to use strategy like sniper-based inoculation and containment of any uncategorized/alien 'creature' for scientific sanitation. Storm-Shadow considered this Leviathan Zebra discovery tantamount to the Apocalypse or Independence Day or Invasion and secretly hoped they'd give him clearance simply to kill!

STORM-SHADOW: At the smallest least of it all, they've provided me with this handy-dandy ice-station laser hand-cannon!

Storm-Shadow had decided to lock up all the US members of the Arctic station Zebra in their erected domed-metal tent structure-rooms so there'd be no resistance/rebellion to his protocol for execution whatsoever and then proceeded to 'greet' and 'converse' with the Leviathan 'dragon-creature' caged in the special aquatics-chamber of Zebra, armed with his laser-gun, ready to shoot it in the eyes and disable its tracking if it tried to break free and continue its predatory intention(s). Storm-Shadow'd concluded the 'alien thing' creature was somehow a 'messenger' from another planet about organics-frailty on Earth!
