A Story by Abishai100
"

A golden-diary about the 'magic' 2006-2007 season for a 'storied' American college-football empire, delivered by a 'depth' writer of 'dating' dimension(s)!

"
An homage to sports-writing and American sports fanfare/storytelling, inspired by the very iconic American film about the storied Notre Dame college-football 'program' Rudy. Hope you like it (and thanks for reading),
DISCLAIMER: I have no official ties/liaisons to the popular Notre Dame school/team cited in this work-of-fanfiction and intend this only to be a 'portrait' of what comprises American college-athletics diaries, with no direct reference to coaches/athletes of any commercial distinction.

Welcome to the campus of the University of Notre Dame, where the Fighting Irish college-football team, boasting a longstanding broadcast-relationship with NBC, is about to open the 2006-2007 season in good fashion, with a strong senior team (Brady Quinn, Darius Walker, Rhema McKnight, Jeff Samardzija) returning to claim glories arguably/perhaps lost to a late-season heartbreak-loss to national powerhouse USC in 2005-2006.

The man covering this anticipated Fighting Irish 2006-2007 season is an Algerian-American sports-writer and Notre Dame assistant-prof Amlan Satan (alias, 'Rudy'). Rudy has been a Notre Dame football fan since he was a little boy, after moving to the United States from politically-challenging Algeria and studying at the Ivy League (Dartmouth), where he played soccer, before becoming a Notre Dame professor of US history.

RUDY: My wife Ezzy is a Notre Dame professor and is excited to see what I'll 'illuminate' with my college-football writeup!

Now, one of the great 'celebs' of American football who's also eyeing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2006-2007 college-football season, with its star-senior lineup ('Brady Quinn & Company') hoping to grab a serious title or bowl victory, is none other than Drew Bledsoe of the Patriots who'd previously been 'rearing' his successor/prodigy Tom Brady. Bledsoe seems to think the Notre Dame 2006-2007 football squad offers something unique and worthy of national-TV --- star-offense.

RUDY: Americans love football, because it speaks to gears, lineups, drafts, stars, grit, dreams; it's inspired many a movie!

As the 2006-2007 Notre Dame Fighting Irish college-football season opens up, sports-writers are all stirred-up about the scope/scale(s) of the storied college-football team returning from the proverbial 'ashes' since the last decade and hopefully stamping some kind of real media-nation 'splash' in the unpredictably 'athletic' universe of American college football.

As the 2006-2007 season opens up, it's no shock that the Notre Dame squad is performing with great concentration and cheers, and many writers/critics suggest that Brady Quinn & Company are not only a Heisman-team but a Bowl-team, and the cheerleaders/fans/alumni watching in the stadium or on NBC-TV are wondering what will be the 'follow-up' to the USC-heartbreak in 2005-2006!

RUDY: The Fighting Irish is all about ornament(s), magic, stories, and teamwork/coaches; we're ready for greatness!

Notre Dame has a few 'culture-field' rivalries in American college football, and they include (arguably), Michigan, USC, Army/Navy, and of course, Penn State. In fact, the 1990s coaching-rivalry created by Joe Paterno (Penn State) and Notre Dame (Lou Holtz) created a 'national scene' for fans wanting to see the field-impact of two legendary icon-coaches forwarding their teams towards greatness...real greatness. In the 2006-2007 Notre Dame season, the touted Fighting Irish will face these old rivals, Penn State Nittany Lions, in Week 2, after defeating/upsetting Georgia Tech in Week 1. The game opens up, and everyone (including Rudy!) are predicting a magic-season. Penn State is ranked in the top-20 in the polls.

RUDY: Last season, we're all jumping when Brady's team were dreaming of toppling the power-Trojans, and now Penn State.

RUDY: What sets apart the 'Brady & Company' squad of 2006-2007 is a flushing surge of offense-flair, throwing off star-teams!

RUDY: I'll admit, Brady & Company are set to offer some 'real' spice this season, and Samardzija scores first from Brady.

RUDY: Brady & Company have destroyed Penn-State (rivals) 41-17, and we don't anticipate more than 3 losses this year!

RUDY: The keynote of this rather dramatic 2006-2007 season which culminated in a 10-3 record and Sugar Bowl is dance.

Sure, sure, the touted Fighting Irish ('Brady & Company') didn't manage to capture a national title in that 'dramatic-dancing' 2006-2007 NBC season of great broadcast college-football, but what we do see now, from recording/storytelling everyday fans like 'Rudy' (Amlan Satan) is an undying social fascination of what makes Notre Dame so completely musical.

RUDY: I think what will stand the test of time in the entire story of America is Notre Dame football...and its 'dusty' fans.
