The final score was 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 in the 1992 French Open final between Monica Seles and Steffi Graf. Seles had already established herself (rather 'gruntingly') as the first-ever 'reliable' and consistent rival/challenger of the previously seemingly 'indomitable' women's tennis reign by the German Goliath star Steffi Graf before coming into this touted French Open final. She'd overcome Graf in a previous French Open and her 'secret' fans hoped her defiant march to the world-#1 ranking would be doubly-sweet with yet another triumph over women's tennis great German phenom, who was slightly older in age in comparison to Monica.

Women's tennis very different from men's tennis. There's much more of a focus on hard-earned long-rally points and gritty play of tactics and style between the differing female tennis athletes. It's not just a 'grand striking' show (as in men's tennis!) but a labyrinth of tactic(s)-based drama! This is why women's games may (arguably) be more 'gripping' than men's tennis matches, regardless of the level(s) reached in a given tournament. Well, Seles had already thrilled her 'secret' fans with a prior triumph over Germany's Graf in the French Open, but this 1992 Final proved to be doubly-cool.

This was a time of great media-lights on women's sports, preceding the upcoming dominant era of the US women's national soccer team at the World Cup. The now-flaming Seles-Graf rivalry restored something in women's tennis that had been removed with the seemingly-indomitable 'glory-run' of undefeated Steffi Graf in the Grand Slam championship(s). The 3-sect victory of younger Seles over Goliath Germany's Graf created a lot more 'street-chatter' about the dashing face of this new 1-2 rivalry. Graf simply had no other rival in women's tennis, and that notion of undeniability was forever 'shifted' with this 3-set stunner and Seles win. Sports-writers would claim, "Broadcast-era women's sports (tennis) may be ever-more dreamy!"
