Kitana is a female 'captain' of Outworld mercenaries offering herself for this vignette-homage to the mercenary-consciousness and why it gives us dread(s).

Kitana is a princess-warrior who wields a blade-fan weapon, sometimes two, and attacks her adversaries in the Mortal Kombat universe known as Outworld and is generally considered one of the female captains of a legion or force of mercenaries who're drawn into Earth-realm to work with Western civilization dilemmas like 9/11 and Protestant-Catholic divide(s) in sectarian Northern Ireland (United Kingdom). She's the lead 'angel' of her mercenary force and hence comprises our main line in this tale about the homage for the mercenary way-of-life.

Kitana, along with her ninja-like comrades, are drawn from Outworld to Earth-realm by a Catholic nun-mother in Belfast who prays that a force or 'team' will arrive in our gloomy terrorism-ridden dimension(s) to aid the young men of Northern Ireland drawn into the terrible rifts between Catholics (IRA) and Protestants (UVF) in a game-of-death not appropriate for the 'captaincy prestige' of Western civilization, given the soul-depression(s) it may create in troubled UK. Kitana arrives in Earth-realm alongside the likes of the white-haired Sindel, the mainstream Raiden, the haunting Mileena, the fierce Sub-Zero, and the wily Johnny Cage. This is the ninja-team here from Outworld to simply 'save' Earth-realm.

However, this homage to the mercenary way-of-life here I'm presenting as your friendly bard is not of Kitana's force-mates but really is an homage to that consciousness through her silky brain! Kitana is not a queen or a mermaid or sea-nymph but rather a 'Centurion' who works as a swordsman/combatant for hire. She's got those terrific blade-fans which remind us why her mercenary-team illuminates the general mind's value of choreographed elegance against the forces of darkness. You have to be a ninja-mercenary to work with Earth-realm hellmouths like Northern Ireland (United Kingdom). We shouldn't wonder why.

Kitana and her mercenary-unit from Outworld reveal the mercenary way-of-life and its values of pragmatism, patience, and poetry. They simply use what's available and make an 'art' of convenience or skill-based upward mobility and/or infiltration(s). This is the world of pirates and gods, but it's also a world where mercenaries from Outworld have trekked to deliver a dose of special utilitarian magic, one based on the goodly rewards of a mission completed on behalf of the helpless. The mercenary may not care for the people they assist and fight for in exchange for money/diamonds, but what they do offer/boast/showcase in this game-of-death is one of pure friendship, if temporary. I'll always consider her my personal (or 'private') 'goddess' of hopeful victory.
