The D-Card*

A Story by Abishai100
"

Narrated presentation of a special baseball-card of a game/pastime signifying 'true' social diet.

"
A baseball love-letter inspired by Mr. Destiny (Michael Caine). Thanks for reading (and enjoy!),
DISCLAIMER: I have no formal ties to the Cubs organization or intend to market any pro-sports mementos in this work of 'sports fanfiction' and cast this only as a re-presentation of entertainment/media distance.

I wanted to enjoy a special Mets-Cubs game during the MLB postseason and thought about my special 'diamond' card, a Kerry Wood Upper-Deck rookie-card, a sports-trades card from a beloved American bat-ball fielding game of imagination/wit of a team-player whose special season in the early 2000s signaled a fresh new start in sports-fanfare in the post-9/11 era.

My name's Amlan Satan, and I've been a fan of sports and baseball games since I was young and though chess remains my private hobby for personal gameplay, I love watching sports (baseball!) and playing baseball with friends for July-4th and playing baseball video-games and blogging about it for Facebook-IQ.

Going to Wrigley Field to enjoy a Cubs-Mets game for the MLB postseason is always a treat, especially when the weather is steady and you can enjoy a beer-dog in the sunlight/sunset hours and think about (from good seating!) why the iconic American sport has become synonymous with 'cool' marketing and media-dollars in the post-9/11 era!

Now we've all heard the society folk-tales of Americans in uniform/duty enjoying the iconic game of baseball among their comrades/soldiers during wartime to unease and take a breath to enjoy the pastime which is really synonymous with teamwork/color. These memories/memoirs have spawned special historical photographs which you might find in Cooperstown these days too.

The sports video-game is a modern marvel and draws in youngsters who might want an 'indoor' media equivalent to the outdoor activity (pro/amateur/league, etc.). The baseball video-game is among the best and most iconic/popular, since it entreats our interest(s) in special child-like spirits and the zest of what makes this bat-ball game so completely distant while delightful or imaginative. I've played baseball video-games since I was a kid and it paralleled my love of collecting baseball cards, which is what this sports fanfiction concerns (really!).

So, this little diorama concerns my special 'diamond' card I'm talking to you about here/now, the Kerry Wood Upper-Deck rookie-card (Chicago Cubs). I think to bring this protective-case covered 'diamond' card with me to Wrigley Field for the Cubs-Mets MLB postseason game, and I think it shall remind me why game (in general!) invoke something out of us that's truly 'extra-terrestrial' --- sportsmanship.

"The game of baseball isn't over until it's over"  (Yogi Berra).
