Alien: Detention

Alien: Detention

A Story by Abishai100
"

Narrated portrait of Earth-American democracy and sportsmanship and chess-play inducing a 'daydream' about a 'Martian' distance.

"
A smalltown narrated fable about 'alien' intuition and sports-daydreams and media-IQ, inspired very loosely by Jakob the Liar (Robin Williams). Enjoy,

Smalltown America is where I was born and grew up to Algerian-American parents and learned of a special love of cyber-blogging and living off my parents' princely-inherited foreign fortunes and my own stock-market successes, and it's where I made special media-mosaics on the Net about the human-species value of games and sportsmanship as a man of religious proportion.

In a place like this small-town, access to media-windows and sports-broadcasts speaks volumes about the quality of values shared by social distances oriented conversations in this modern age of email and cyber-friendship, and even here, folks carry iPhones and text each other for updates on their favorite local teams which they might gather to watch together on Sunday afternoons. This is Earth-America, folks.

I grew up with a special love of cyber-games (video-games!) and my parents encouraged me to complement this love of 'toys' and brain-candy with self-taught/trained diligent and meditative chess-play. I had this special pocket-magnet chess-board/set, which I used to arrange games of strategy and piece-position movements against myself, against my imaginary alter-ego of 'darkness' which I always represented as the black-piece (dark-colored piece) side while I played with the white-side. Yes, this complemented my other media-age fascination with games through the cyber-media portal/window (video-games!). It's how/why arguably I fertilized my special IQ and fascination with competition-consciousness!

In America, football and baseball are way more popular than other sports which are otherwise more popular outside the United States. These 'non-American' sports include soccer and rugby and field-hockey and of course cricket. Cricket, like American baseball, is a bat-and-ball and fielders-defense competition sports-game but one that involves a much more 'aesthetics' oriented style of pitching/bowling and batting-scoring. I had this 'fantastic' tabletop cricket simulation game which I used to simulate/recreate/replay 'classic' international cricket-games I loved watching on video/TV and later YouTube, such as the rivalry-games between India and Pakistan and between Australia and the West Indies.

My name's Amlan Satan, and I'm a diarist of sports/competition and gameplay and chess-play and enjoy modern amenities in my US-smalltown such as Facebook-chess. I especially like chatting with my Facebook-chess opponents about major world-cricket competition(s) such as rivalry-matches between India/Pakistan which are made more 'worldly' thanks to social-media window(s).

Cricket is such a 'classic' world-game and celebrates therefore classic-design(s) and aesthetics-driven style and field-play and its uniforms are also arguably/therefore quite beautiful and crafted. The cricket bat, unlike the American baseball-bat, is flat in shape, and classic cricket uniforms were almost always white-in-color (like the white-side of chess-boards/sets!). It's a game of competition grace, really, originally made world-popular in inception-phases by the English.

Cricket has produced many world-legends including Gavaskar (India), Imran Khan (Pakistan), and Lance Gibbs (West Indies). It's a game of extra-ordinary elegance and swift-speed(s) and terrific field-play, balancing offense-and-defense with timed patience. It's the 'golf' version of baseball in many views.

This smalltown fable ain't about cricket or chess or video-games or media-window(s). It's about my encounter with a calculating Martian (alien!) named Endymion who'd been spying on my love of human-IQ and civilization-competition imagination in my US-smalltown from Earth's own moon and wanted to challenge me in special stalemate-condition(s) chess-play through a cyber-portal to accent my diplomacy for my human-race and incidentally my admiration of modern tech/media/science(s).

ENDYMION: Damn; you've drawn a stalemate with a swift rook-bishop double-line 'array' to counter queen-knight offense-IQ!
AMLAN SATAN (Me): Sure; well, I hoped such a 'draw' would induce a diplomacy-sovereignty compact for our race with yours.
ENDYMION: Perhaps you'll show more 'flowery' with your cyber-demos/presentations about competition-IQ on Earth; ha.

I'll never know (truly!) if Endymion really was a Martian challenging me in cyber-chess in my US-smalltown, but what I do know is that our mock-diplomacy arrangement(s) induced in me a newfound 'faerie-tale' appreciation for how competition-IQ (e.g., cricket-aesthetics imagination!) in the modern world (Earth!) highlights my 'human' love of the 'd' quotient. Maybe Endymion is now residing (secretly!) in the deep-ocean abyss as a self-exiled isolationist and pursuing his/its own 'brand' of media-window(s) (e.g., YouTube) accessed 'social consciousness' competition study...or drawing(s)! This has been a smalltown-tale of 'alien' distances.
