Captain Amlan Satan traveled to the dusty planet of Mars for NASA in the new shuttle Sulaco and encountered a 'monarch' alien named Endymion who wished to chat with him about the symmetry-designs/strategy-arrays of the piece-position strategy offense-defense board-game of chess, the iconic competitive IQ-game that sometimes yielded a 'stalemate' condition (tie/draw/no-win decision) and made him discover the stark intelligence required to be a Martian on the fierce Red Planet of mystery!

CAPTAIN SATAN: Playing chess with the Martian and chatting with him about symmetry-arrays of design/strategy was real-IQ.

The Martian wore a mask and robe and reminded Captain Satan of an eerie monarch he remembered seeing in a special Earth/American old-era kingdom movie and wondered why the alien 'being' was so intrigued by the strategy-game of chess and what it reflected about Earth-fashions that stirred his interests.

ENDYMION: The two sides in chess, offense-defense, are arrayed symmetrically and can yield a 4-way symmetry risk-line!

AMLAN SATAN: Sure; I've become a big-time fan of cyber-chess on Earth, Endymion.

ENDYMION: Both sides are arrayed symmetrically and position pieces in sometimes 'mirror' fashion, with offense-defense!

AMLAN SATAN: Sure; each player has the side-view of double-symmetry in position-pieces and can draw risk dual-lines.

ENDYMION: Excellence; I might create a queen-knight advance for offense representing pure 'diagonal' attack/diamonds!

AMLAN SATAN: Yeah; I may use a rook-bishop double-line counter-symmetry or dual-action move to create side-levers.

ENDYMION: Damn; that's right; we see that our wrought stalemate-condition here, captain, reflects strategy in governance!

AMLAN SATAN: Yeah; in fact, chess-symmetry and risk-line options for piece-positions resemble politics risk-variance(s).

When Amlan Satan returned home, to Boston, he decided to get a book about stalemate-chess conditions and began writing cyber-presentations of what made the strategy-risk game of politics/position(s) analysis reflective of 'real-Earth' IQ for applied science in governance variance controls! He'd learned a great deal from the wrought stalemate in chess against the eerie monarch-alien/Martian (Endymion) and was moved to 'study' chess for the first-time ever.

DIARY: I married my high-school sweetheart (Ezzy); and we're both Catholics; and I remember my chess-dream on the Red Planet now and think of what all this 'thinking' has yielded for me, as a human being, regarding the 'applied' psyche of discovered imaginations...those of humanity, social cohesion, self-made designs, and 'living' destiny.
