Philadelphia DevilsA Story by Abishai100A City of Brotherly Love sports-artist 'stencils' a local-community baseball championship series 'underdog' egg-emoji for academic/city expression(s).
A 'toast' for Philadelphia sportsmanship consciousness inspired by the local lore-spirit created by the timeless city-set sports-legendary movie-gem Rocky (Sylvester Stallone). Thanks so much for reading (and enjoy!),
DISCLAIMER: This work of culture/media/sportsmanship offers no formal/legal claims to any of the referenced teams or schools or the city of Philadelphia and is cast only as a fictional drama-work of personal diary/journals. ---- ==== Take a good look at a black and white photo of the city of Philadelphia (United States), as Devil's Night, the night before Halloween Eve (October 30) approaches across North America (Western civilization). ![]() This is the story of a sports-writer named Amlan Satan, a graduate of Penn State University who first-started with sports-themed writing while cheering on the iconic (if 'under-valued') American college-football rivalry between the celebrated/toasted Penn State Nittany Lions and the hallmark American TV-team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, which has produced much commentary/cheers on modern social-media (e.g., Facebook-chess)! ![]() AMLAN SATAN: I found everything for my life in Philadelphia and in Penn State, including my great professor-advisor and wife. ![]() Now, we all know the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame has offered the media-broadcast era of Western sports much drama/fascination for fans and writers, and Notre Dame's more iconic rivalry with the Colorado Buffaloes in the great Lou Holtz era of college-football was certainly unforgettable, thanks to back-to-back Orange Bowl thrillers. However, Amlan Satan, the Penn State grad and sports-writer on the cyber-fanzine (Dartmouth) conceived of the Nittany-Lions/Fighting-Irish media-broadcast college-football rivalry a 'hail' for what made/makes sports/sportsmanship (or chess!) in Philadelphia a 'thing' of unforgettable street lore (wow). ![]() AMLAN SATAN: I had my 'doubt(s)' for a time; thinking Notre Dame was more paired with Colorado, but the Nittany Lions showed us something about rivalry/pairings between the two legend-coaches of the two respective teams of Indiana/Pennsylvania (Lou Holtz - Joe Paterno), which has offered many-a-student of the schools of the United States a rather 'colored' form of journal-oriented eternity! ![]() So, this year, as Devil's Night approaches, people think of that iconic Notre Dame and Penn State rivalry in media-broadcast college-football, and they project the entire televised college-football season in the United States as perhaps an 'academic' lens for what makes Devil's Night of the Halloween-season, the night of ritualized/'underground' mischief and anarchy a sort of precursor for what makes the time of college-football (and Philadelphia-TV sports!) a 'thing' of human race eccentricity. ![]() Why Amlan Satan is thinking 'deeply' about this Nittany-Lions/Fighting-Irish rivalry 'weight' and density for Western TV is owed to a lesser-known 'fable' about American sportsmanship (or chess!). It regards a unique 'stalemate' in sportsmanship, between a local community baseball team in Philadelphia challenging the might of a dominant local community baseball team as an 'underdog' in the community championship game which would raise money for AIDS awareness and Coronavirus-relief/media/support. The underdog team, the Fury, challenged the dominant team, the Kick, in the local Philly-team story, which Amlan Satan, incidentally, covered for the Dartmouth fanzine. ![]() AMLAN SATAN: The Fury were to play the Kick in a Best-of-7 championship series in the City of Brotherly Love that late summer season, and no one expected the 'upstart' Fury to do anything worthwhile at all against a dominant powerhouse Kick simply 'steamrolling' through to the championship and raising much media local flair and charity-energy for the sponsorship-community themed sports summertime 'event' which generated enough 'bruhaha' to warrant a simply 'jaw-dropping' tide-turn when the huge underdog Fury-team shocked the city/sponsors by defeating the Kick in Game 1 of the championship-series, despite losing the eventual championship 4-1, as the Kick won every other game afterwards, but we remember that 'strange' Game 1 'surprise' for all the 'toy-IQ' it generated in Philadelphia for lovers of the 'chess-stalemate' mentalism of sportsmanship-community expectations (wow). ![]() His wife thinks all this glittering flowery for Philadelphia sports-writing has led to much city-magic leading up to the ritual if strange Devil's Night leading up to the Halloween Eve for this autumn-season in the City of Brotherly Love. She's been recounting all those times at Penn State, when the two were still students (in love!) simply cheering for the Nittany Lions in a Fighting Irish game that Joe Paterno saw the hometown team of Penn State grab an 'academic' symbolic community-lore gold-medal (ha). Who doesn't love school-ties? ![]() AMLAN SATAN: This Devil's Night, as I think of that Fury-Kick community-baseball 'underdog-fable' of subtle-quality for 'chess-stalemate' sportsmanship consciousness in Philadelphia, I think of all the American community/culture lore that's built this sort of modern society 'imagination' regarding the 'craft' of inventive education (hmm). ![]() “Tis the night, 'the night Of the grave's delight,And the warlocks are at their play; Ye think that without, The wild winds shout, But no, it is they, 'it is they'!” -Arthur Cleveland Coxe (Halloween: A Romaunt) ==== "Money is everything" (Ecclesiastes) © 2022 Abishai100 |
