Batman and Wonder-Woman existed in differing dimensions or planes of existence. They'd become rather polar opposites of the universe of defense and valiant efforts to reduce the frequency of criminality and evil. Batman worked on Earth-realm as a socialite-vigilante double-man figure named Bruce Wayne (real-name: Amlan Satan) and worked with blood-diamond smugglers traffic/terrorism and insurance corruption in the post-9/11 era of United States Homeland securities erosion and dealt with super-villains like Ra's al Ghul (Hungarian chemical-warfare specialist) and the Red Hood Gang (bank robbery gang) but was always down-to-Earth despite his 'chess-like' sanity and precision with criminal-insanity warfare for Earth-realm defenses. Meanwhile, Wonder-Woman lived in a faraway dimension with no crossover potential to Earth but somehow 'sensed' the presence of the vigilante-hero Batman on Earth and fell in love with him, as his secret-admirer, sharing his humanoid visage/appearance and general love of crime-fighting and super-heroics. She loved him (truly).

WONDER-WOMAN: He'll never now I'm in love (how much); he's my man of dreams --- a chess-defender of youth/innocence.

Batman was home one night in Wayne Manor playing a kids' version of Ouija with his daughter-in-law and suddenly felt the hand-cold spirit of his faraway secret-admirer (Wonder-Woman!) and knew then/there that he reciprocated her passions for him, but he wasn't certain this was 'true' love and besides, he still had much serious work to do as a vigilante-hero with great darkness/danger and (honestly) didn't want to implicate her in such Hell. He wondered therefore if she really did/could love a man like him, which was ironically tragic, since she was indeed simply in love with this dark knight of the American-Earth environment (wow). Batman wondered if this love separated by distance/darkness was somehow a dimension-crossing 'signpost' of what made love's call a certain 'chess' stalemate for the ideations of strained emotions, but he nevertheless considered his love of Wonder-Woman a 'thing' of unending distance.
