1992: Year of the Dragon(s)*A Story by Abishai100Can media-broadcast athletics (collegiate) reveal a special 'magic' in a Homeland composition (for high-art)?
A toast for what made the iconic media-broadcast era college-athletics 'event' between Duke-Indiana (1992 Men's NCAA Basketball National Semifinal) reflective of the capitalism-race Ego (or a legend!).
DISCLAIMER: This work of sports-drama offers no commercial/legal ties to the references 1992 Final-Four teams/schools (Duke/Indiana) and all images used herein comprise a purely 'personal' exercise in social hyperbole (for 'open' history-education). ---- ==== I'd been reviewing a special 'contest' between two legendary American college basketball programs from the late 20th-Century, between two iconic schools boasting two legendary coaches (Coach K and Bob Knight) who'd generated enough sportsmanship 'social media buzz' to warrant their own cinematic inspirations. This 1992 NCAA men's Final-Four semifinal between these two iconic basketball programs in the American Homeland of the pre-9/11 era (Duke-Indian) showcased some of the 'marshal' features of competition-class activity that'd generate the right-stuff in social-media commentary by modern Western-world citizenry invested in the 'cool-excellence' of negotiated competitive (televised!) 'history' activity (wow). ![]() JERRY TARKANIAN (Paraphrased-Quotation): "I've said it multiple times --- the only team of 1992 that can really boast a 'real' chance of overcoming the potency/hubris of Duke's well-engineered team would be Bob Knight's Indiana Hoosiers this year!" ![]() Now, folks, for those of you who'd been 'fans' of the media-excellence of men's college basketball in this modern time know that 1992 was the same-year when numerous teams of potency/magic/hubris rose to great skill-celebrations/prominence, including Arkansas, Memphis St., Michigan, Duke, Indiana, and of course Kentucky. In fact, Duke had just overcome a nailbiting 'miracle' event against Kentucky in the Regional Finals (Philadelphia) to reach this Final-Four showdown against Bob Knight's Indiana Hoosiers, in an overtime 'trophy' considered to be the timeless great match of men's basketball (college!). Now, Coach K's Duke Blue Devils hoped (seriously!) to have their 'managerial-magician' (Bob Hurley) offer the sort of field-chess 'brain' required to choreograph the sort of team-gears play required to 'stand' against the brigade of the Hoosiers' well-hoisted machine of striking kinetics, led wonderfully by its 'scary' superstar-actor (Calbert Cheaney). That's just what happened, but the showdown, featured a 'cool' Hurley overcoming the huge hurdle of surpassing a Hoosiers 'redline' in a televised post-Kentucky 'event' worthy of all its modern media 'chivalry' lore. ![]() Coach K used to study under Bob Knight before becoming Duke's head-coach and this was a 'reunion' (televised!) and featured the student now serving as a currency-rival to his former guru (wow). That's why I'm creating this social-media 'friendly' examination for this Duke-Indiana (Blue Devils versus Hoosiers) diorama-portrait of what makes/made the media-broadcast era of collegiate-athletics worthy of its special 'sportsmanship' or game-like fun/energy --- the quality of capitalism's reflective class board (education). ![]() Therefore, 1992 was the proverbial 'Year of the Dragon' in men's college basketball in the pre-9/11 era American Homeland! The Duke-Indiana showdown between Coach K and Bob Knight and between their two star-climbers (Hurley/Cheaney) revealed why the magic of social activity as a pre-9/11 'appetizer' to commerce-life education/energy would be imprinted onto the next millennium's high-art rhetoric concerning antiterrorism, pluralism, storytelling, superstition(s), and of course...the generation of power (wow). ![]() STORY-EXCERPT: "It seemed to the audiences/writers of this 'event' of media fantasy that the Western-world was climbing this special 'peak-maximum' concerning the stranger forms of 'invented' capitalism-race hubris, but it was all (arguably) for the finery of fortune's special copper-hand(s)." ![]() I for one consider this media event in college-athletics worth all the hype for the sheer social-media 'buzz' it'd generate among parents entreating their kids to seek forms of fortune-bridges to the proverbial American Dream in the face of all this 'televised' wonder for commerce-life in this new time of great cyber/traffic activity. I for one 'cheer' how Duke-Indiana would promote new/inventive forms of educational-resourcing initiative/splendor among ambition-minded 'prodigies' seeking to overcome 'gross hurdles' of the landscape to find lights of 'real' American Homeland machinery (hmm). ![]() Can sports/media really offer us the view of socialized confidence/entertainment required for this modern Earth of hospitality/divisions? "The most courageous player I ever coached was Bobby Hurley. Even when I myself felt stifled by moments of doubt, I could look into Bobby's eyes and find the confidence" (Coach K, Duke). ![]() "Doing well is the result of doing good. That's what capitalism is all about" (Ralph Waldo Emerson). ==== "Money is everything" (Ecclesiastes) © 2023 Abishai100 |
