Plan-9: Road B+

Plan-9: Road B+

A Story by Abishai100
"

Can roadway-detour(s) make for 'bound' friendships in a Homeland of self-discovery (for bread)?

"
An adaptation of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (John Hughes). Thanks for reading,

Well, the final-destination of this roadways-tale is a nice area of New England, which two unlikely 'pals' reached, since they shared a goal for the Thanksgiving weekend, one to a timeshare (for lone-comfort) and the other for a family-reunion in an area residence, which incidentally was an area of great color/skies. However, the journey was anything for pleasantries in photo-graphics.

ESTELLE: This is my special diamond-wristwatch gifted by my uncle Stan.
AMLAN: Cool; I love gems; I read about blood-diamonds; bad area/problem.
ESTELLE: You talk a lot, don't you?
AMLAN: Funny we met in O'Hare; went across the land(s); learned about us!
ESTELLE: Not all folks are 'open' about shared comforts/personality, man.
AMLAN: Geez, you sure are (rather) paranoid, given the watch (ha).

Amlan, a traveling book-salesman, and Estelle, a business-exec, prepared for an easy-trip from the Windy City to New England but learned their flight was cancelled because of inclement weather/stormy-skies and decided to share a motel-room because of required combined funds, and Amlan slept on the floor. They got on the bus the next-day to reach another airport, only to discover that their New England (Boston) flight was (also) cancelled; so they set out on buses and trains and a few car-shares to finally get to Cincinnati, where they found a very nice library to kill-time. Along the way, they learned (much) about each other, their shared love of Shakespeare, Alka-Seltzer, chess, and the Three-Stooges. They also found a social-media culture 'reflective' compromise-stance/consciousness in seriously 'dealing' with each other, learning to tolerate one another (ha).

ESTELLE: I can't believe O'Hare flights fall-through for Thanksgiving, man.
AMLAN: You never can tell, Estelle; it's a mad mad mad world, you know?
ESTELLE: Well, thanx for splitting-funds for this plan-9 (detour).
AMLAN: Sure, sure, sure; I think a 'good' adventure is due for the holidays.
ESTELLE: Let's hope this is good for social media (hmm).

ESTELLE: This guy's snoring loudly, man.
AMLAN: Want me to hit him on the head (he won't know it's me in time!)?
ESTELLE: No, Amlan; that's crazy; there's nothing more assuring than neglect.
AMLAN: Alright, then we just roll-along in this bus (damn).

Inside that Cincinnati library, Amlan/Estelle found some nice reads and classics to kill-time and await their (final) transport that'd (finally/eventually) get them to Boston (New England) where they'd part-ways and thank heavens they reached for the Thanksgiving meal(s), and then something stranger came along for Estelle's destiny.

ESTELLE: Why're you reading Ethan Frome (depression)?
AMLAN: I've had much loss in life; thinking about becoming a writer!
ESTELLE: That's interesting; you didn't strike me as a 'pensive' salesman.
AMLAN: I try to keep the 'psyche' behind writing-motive secret (for me).
ESTELLA: Aha, not unlike social media (culture) 'bias' for life?
AMLAN: Yeah, you know that's a pretty sharp observation for library-folk (ha).

ESTELLE: This movie's a stylized story about bad lives/thievery, man.
AMLAN: In deed (and words!); it's a tale of alienation and focus, no?
ESTELLE: You sure are pensive when it comes to story-reads, Amlan.
AMLAN: Thanx for saying that...you know movies remind us of soul-fear(s).
ESTELLE: What's that?
AMLAN: A 'soul-fear' awakens you to a life-choice --- atheism/religion (ha).
ESTELLE: Weird.

When they got to New England (finally/eventually), Amlan revealed to Estelle that he'd been a loner his whole life and after losing his family decided to become a continuing/wandering loner in America. That's when Estelle made for discovery the 'real' magic of that Thanksgiving planes/trains/autos 'ordeal' for storytelling --- she'd found a 'friend' for play-fortune restoration.

ESTELLE: I used to hate all these 'tokens' of traffic-superstitions.
AMLAN: And now you've found a 'sticker' thought for endurance (hmm).

UNCLE STAN: Well, it's good to have you here, man.
AMLAN: This (Indian) luchi-bread thanksgiving-diner plate is all chat(s), friend.
ESTELLE: Amlan's a pensive wannabe-writer, Uncle Stan!
UNCLE STAN: Seems roadways bring you two (together) as 'friends' of culture.
AMLAN: Isn't that cool?
