Guy Forget: Tennis_WatchA Story by Abishai100Fan-portrait of an offbeat/under-rated tennis star, French Davis Cup double-champion Guy Forget.
A fan portrait of an under-rated modern-era pro-tennis star for media-age commentary/reflections, the French 'cool-guy' with a funny-name Guy Forget who helped his country 'snatch' 2 titles at the nations-competition Davis Cup ('91, '96). Drawn loosely from the competition-windows 'aesthetics' film Wimbledon (Richard Loncraine).
DISCLAIMER: This work of sports-fanfare offers no ties to the player of mention-bio, Guy Forget, and all images/references used herein therefore comprise a purely 'personal' expression for social media presentation (for 'open' views). ---- ==== Guy Forget wasn't Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi or Boris Becker or Ivan Lendl or Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal or John McEnroe or Arthur Ashe, but he brought a quiet 'shadow-dude' quality for media-age pro-tennis fanfare for our mod-world of social-windows drawn fanfare for commentary (yes). ![]() He broke into the 'scene' with a 1982 French Open junior-title and reached a doubles-tennis World #3 ranking by 1986. In 1991, Forget won 6 titles and defeated heavyweight Pete Sampras in 2 of them, reaching a career-high singles World #4 ranking that year (quite-cool). ![]() It was also in 1991 that Guy Forget led his French side to its first Davis Cup title in a very long time, defeating Pete Sampras in a singles-rubber decider that shocked the favored US-side with a 3-1 triumph for fanfare/media. He'd help France claim another Davis Cup title in 1996, as retirement loomed! He compiled a very high 38-11 Davis Cup (France) wins-record before retiring. He retired in 1997 and won almost $6M in tennis-titles/earnings. ![]() In 2011, Forget was awarded the coveted Philippe Chatrier Award for his contributions to international tennis. Again, he was no pronounced superstar-celeb in pro-tennis like Agassi/McEnroe/Lendl/Nadal, but what he offered to our media-age of fanfare-windows was that 'cool-quiet shadow-dude' mystique, with very unusual tennis-strokes and a signature offbeat back-racquet arch-delayed held swing-serve which kind of 'accented' is overall quiet and 'defined' demeanor on-court and style. That's why a fan-nod is owed to a Frenchman who provided fanfare-writing a special 'spice' for the flare of bureaucracy-arts, and I think of this quiet-dude of quite-cool achievements/distances when I remember my own quiet-fun days competing in junior-high and high-school tennis, and I think of my tourney-trophy for 'incomplete-distances' lines for sportsmanship-dialysis. You just can't forget a guy like Guy Forget! ![]() "Doing well is the result of doing good.
