Rivalry-Midways: A Cold War Analogy/ProofA Story by Abishai100A college athletics (basketball-TV) social media 'language' offers some hyperbole 'expression' for USA-USSR jars of doubt/bind.
A Duke-UNC (basketball) rivalry portrait for Cold War symbolism/fiction. Thanks for reading,
DISCLAIMER: This work of sports/politics dramatization offers no ties to any representative person(s)/body (e.g., Duke basketball) and is therefore cast as purely a 'personal' expression for social arts (for 'open' views/translations/criticism). ---- ==== There was a key moment in the Duke-Carolina men's college basketball sports/media rivalry in the year '93 (20th-Century) that drew my attention for a Cold War reflection/relevance. The Cold War was a chess-stalemate 'dilemma' for world nets and languages for evolution in social media/exchanges that would affect American-European relations for trade and policy stylization for generations. As capitalism/consumerism became global and even entertainment reflected this Earth realm trend (e.g., The Founder, Pawn Sacrifice). That's why the media 'universe' had become translations-diorama 'rich' for politics-lifestyle blending (Selfie-like!). ![]() Duke Blue Devils basketball had risen from the ashes of Championship game devastation post-achievements in reaching the Final Four in the early years of the guidance of legend Coach K (late-1980s) before they established a program of simple athletics/competition flourishment and 'chess-excellence' and achieved much under the tutelage of its guiding mentor/coach, including numerous ACC (conference) titles, regular-season #1 rankings, and national championships (5 in all!). However, as Duke grew and became a TV/media 'language' for youth/fans/writers/critics, so did the emerging UNC Tar Heels men's basketball program, boasting talents who'd become NBA greats, like Michael Jordan (Chicago Bulls) and Rasheed Wallace (Boston Celtics). In other words, my friends, the Duke-UNC rivalry for social media had become a culture 'life-blend' for competition/chess jars of simplified leviathan/uncertainty (Facebook-like!). ![]() That's why I sought to make a special Cold War 'flight-machinery' diorama that reflected a key-moment in this culture/landscape 'iconic' sports (college-basketball) rivalry shape/ergonomics for capitalism/lifestyle representation or storytelling. The key-moment came in February-'93, when Duke had lost key talent seniors to the NBA Draft, leaving behind a still-skilled smaller nucleus of ambitious play-makers and guards (e.g., Bob Hurley) that proved to be a great round table for things of efficiency and striking, challenging other teams/schools of great talents and teamwork, like the UNC Tar Heels. The 2/93 game saw Duke win nicely, thanks to 'fantastic' teamwork and play-making; and my Cold War diorama would reflect this sort of team/contest 'geometry' for representations in variances of war/controls machinery for flight-and-jars, a sort of motions-jagged design. ![]() The 2/93 Duke win was avenged just one-month later by the UNC Tar Heels (3/93) with a nifty win of their own (wow). Well, needless to say, such TV/media 'culture' languages of flight-and-jars would affect how we'd construe the design-verbs of modern globalism rhetoric for social nets expansion/frailty theorems of incomplete-distances readings of 21st-Century (or beyond/before!) bureaucracy controls for sanity (or stoichiometry!).
