Have Sword/Will TravelA Story by Albert FreemanThe story is about a gladiator, a laid-back king, and a nimble musician. It starts on an ocean planet. The crux of the story involves someone borrowing money. The rise of global media plays a major part in this story.Have Sword/Will Travel
I knew I had made a mistake when I borrowed the 500 emeralds from Tandia, but at the time it had seemed like a good idea. Visiting a planet that was 98% water, you'd think a team named the Aquamarino Dolphins would trounce a team named the Atalantean Mud Pidgeons. Looking down at the ticket in my hands I let it fall in disgust. I should have known by the way she hooted at my pick that I had made a serious mistake. "Stupid dolphins," I muttered, getting up from my seat to make my way to the exit. Now how was I going to find 500 emeralds to pay her back? It was bad enough that she didn't need the money, due to being this worlds most famous musician, but it was even worse that she'd collect quickly just to rub it in my face. That was the problem with family. Always had to rub it in your face when they proved to be right. I let out a sigh as I made my way into the elevation-el to take me back to my rooms. This was suppose to be a vacation, but now I'd be forced to except a few jobs to get her the money. The life of a space gladiator was a busy one. I cherished my vacation time and now I was forced to work due to stupidity. I didn't relish having to call in a favor with Rodrin either. The king of Elaspia was notorious for his laxness, but he was my best chance to get into the gladiatorial rotation without having to renew my license on the planet. I looked around on the el and out beyond the glass windows to the floating news bots that constantly played the days top stories on their giant screens and did a double take. There I was on the screens dropping my ticket in disgust and under it the caption read:
Seven time Lunarian Gladiator Champion Maris loses big in the Formasian finals. Will be forced to join the gladiator games over the weekend!
I cursed under my breath. This had to be Tandia's work. Did I mention my dislike of the media? I was beginning to have a feeling Tandia had done this on purpose. Maybe it was why she had gleefully informed me on arrival that she had bought a stake in Saldusia Media Inc. At the time I had shrugged and dismissed it while chomping on all the mints she had, but now I was getting suspicious. The big talk before my arrival here had been about Rodrin's breaking up of the big media giants and the rise of hundreds of smaller media companies. I touched and smooth down the fake beard and mustache I was wearing and hunched my shoulders. She was too nimble by half juggling so many obligations. Gotta love family. If I was going to be fighting over my vacation I'd be sure to call my agent so we'd get a cut of the t.v. and marketing from her. Did I mention you just have to love family?
