Obsessed

Obsessed

A Poem by Laura Pruett

It's an obsession,
this repression
of mortal fears
no human ears
can ever hear
For if I speak
the thoughts that sneak
inside my mind
I may bind
Others of my kind
within the same trap.
My mind may snap
if I knew
Someone who
took the cue
from me and understood
that this black hood
will be lifted from us all
when our heads fall
and the masses call
for blood.
I understood
too long ago
And I know
that I must let go
of all these thoughts
that death has brought
into my head
Or I might as well be dead...
I might as well be dead.
