The Shattering

The Shattering

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

The stones that were thrown
Scattered glass all around
Battered and bloodied
I gathered them off the ground

What could I do?
Shards nicking me like knives
I was broken; it was true
What good was it to strive?

But You took my broken pieces
And You made them something new
Despite chaos, You brought peace
As You changed my whole worldview

I saw my life there, shattered
A mess I could not mend
But You told me I still mattered
And to each wound You did attend

Why should You love
One who has nothing at all to give?
As I lie here, dying
Still, You say to me, "Live!"

What can you gain
From this one tortured soul?
Why lift me from the depths
And again make me whole?

I am so unworthy
Yet You call to me by name
You bestow Your blessings unto me
And of me, are unashamed

Such a marvel is unheard of
That You would care so much
You offer all You have to me
If in You, I'll merely trust

So here's my heart
It's all I have
You say that it's enough

I'll live to love
Just like You do
For You, I won't give up
