I See You, Lovely

I See You, Lovely

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

She struggles and she strives
They hand to her the knife
She cuts herself and bleeds
They show their daggered teeth

She looks to them for comfort
They say no one could love her
"Cut her deep and snuff the light
The child is weak; she has no fight"

She hurls herself at danger
Hoping to wreck her visage
But there stands aloft a Stranger
Who complements her image

"Don't harm yourself, I beg you
For lovely is your design
Don't let the demons fool you
For you yourself are Mine"

"I formed you in your mother
I gave to you your traits
I breathed your soul to life
So wonderfully were you made"

"I love you, don't you see?
I gave you everything
The world is in your hands
For you My angels sing"

"The demons wish you ruined
For jealous they are of you
You who bear My image
For which hatred they accrued"

His hand reached down for her
That broken, battered girl
The demons began to stir
As love did shake the world

He lifted her so gently
She handed Him the blade
Demons cried out in fury
And go with Him, forbade

But the girl was so focused
On the Man who loved her dearly
That the shrill screams of angered demons
Could no longer be heard clearly

The scene of them grew distant
As truth and love were felt
There was a shift in disposition
And in His arms the girl was held

He wanted nothing from her
Except the love within her heart
And that she would trust in Him
Knowing she was His work of art

"But I am so unworthy"
She spoke through teary eyes
"How can you love this mess
When myself I do despise?"

Then His hand caressed her face
As He eyed her soul in love
"For you, I prepared grace
Before I even formed the world"

"I know the plans I have for you
My child, well, don't you see?
I prepared this place to teach you love
Through all life's mysteries"

"But all that's here is passing
It fades more every day
While darkness tries to snuff out the light
In the end, only the good remains"

"So live for Me
And hear My Words
From now until forever"

"For I have lived
And died for you
So we can be together"

She took His hand
They walked the road
He carried all her burdens

His sacrifice
Brought her a hope
By which she could be certain

That there are better days to come
This life is not the end
For a world beyond this waits for us
If through Jesus we make amends
