I Understand

I Understand

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

Pain in your face

As you tell me of things

Answering questions

Jokes covering the sting

But I saw you there

Trying to be strong

Frustration leaking out

Your disconsolate song

I feel for you, I do

You long to be loved

I was left once before too

Dragged off by a man devoid of

Anything good

Not a shred of light in him

My protector in a daze

Has no trace of remembrance

It was fine in the end

It could have been worse

Still I remember the tears

Never rescued from the hurt

I felt so abandoned

So small and alone

No one to protect me

My fractured cornerstone

I guess here’s the point

I know how you’re feeling

I’ve felt it myself

These emotional dealings

You can’t make them love you

Though it ought to come natural

They forget to remember

That you are so valuable

Maybe they don’t see you

But I know your worth

And there will always be others

Who will choose and put you first
