Siren

Siren

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

She danced upon waves

And drank in the moonlight

That free spirit

Which couldn’t be tamed

At times I would beckon

For her to draw near

She’d hold out her hand

And then disappear

Beneath the salty waves

That were ever crystal clear

Returning still again

With her playful beckoning

But I am still the wiser

For I know not to pursue

For should I grasp her hand even briefly

The worst things would ensue

Her beauty would diminish

As she plunges me into darkness

I’d feel her daggered teeth

Tearing apart my flesh

For she is just an illusion

A desire to draw in

Before she steals your life before you

The penalty of your sin
