Apple Pine (1/2)

Apple Pine (1/2)

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity
"

Told from the perspective of a very foolish mage who thoughtlessly brings about a new horror to his world.

"

Once upon, a day or two ago

Thoughtless, insouciant, chanted I

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

And, lo and behold, a forest did grow

As this unbridled magic went awry

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

Marvelous evergreens strewn all about

Growing apples that glowed like embers

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

Beauty unrivaled!” I foolishly shout

Until I am met with an ear-piercing offender

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

One came, then another

I dive to the ground

What could it be?

These ear-piercing sounds

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

The chant in my head

I could not halter

Banshee-like screaming

Causes me to stumble and falter

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

Run and escape!

Most foolish of mages

The demonic screams

Would break the sanest of sages

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

The chant in my head

Starts flowing from my lips

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

I cannot escape them

For all around me becomes this

Pineapple, pine, apple, pine, applepine!”

Then I stumble and fall

All fades to black

And I find myself here

With all the guilt I have wracked

Surely ‘twas a dream”

I comfort myself

Then I’m called to stand trial

For the foolishness I’ve dealt

Author's Note

Alicia-Veracity
Once, a friend told me this story about the "Applepine" tree. It was a pine tree that grew beautiful, glowing apples that were infested with these horrifying worms that would scream during the night, should anyone happen to draw near. My friend told the story with such enthusiasm that I almost wanted to believe in the story if only for the enchanting way that he relayed it. And so, I wondered... How would such a forest come into being? I thought, perhaps some foolish mage would bring it into existence. And so, I began two poems (this and another) to sort of bring to life this fascinating tale as best as I could.
