Words that Run Free

Words that Run Free

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

I heard the words

Wild, untamed

I looked upon them

As though they were game

I raised my bow

Prepared to shoot

And then I paused

Halting my pursuit

I watched as they pranced

Graceful and free

I wondered at their dance

Filled with mystical glee

Beautiful, unbridled

Eternity in them

Why should they be mine?

Hunted, ensnared

No, let them remain

Unchained, as intended

Let none hold their reins

Claim their lives, undefended

I drop my bow

The pride of my life

Letting wild beauties go

Content with the sight

Collapsing to the grass

I rest in Earth’s bosom

She grants me gentle sleep

As she sings to me of wisdom

Some we do take

And others we let go

Understanding which is which

You’ll learn as you go

Author's Note

Alicia-Veracity
I wrote this one mostly just for fun. It's a sort of depiction of those times when I think up an amazing start to a poem, but instead of capturing those words for myself and writing them down, I simply appreciate them for a moment and then let them go forever.
