Regret

Regret

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

You’d think I had it all

From the outside, looking in

Maybe I kind of do

Yet, I’ve still this lingering pain

You, I’ll always miss

My one damning regret

That I never reached for you

When I clearly had the chance

That I left you far too soon

That I turned and closed my eyes

I know you have every right

To see in me what you despise

What is it I seek?

There is only this one thing

That I’d never have to leave

And be away from you again

That I could right this wrong

And fix every mistake

Give it another go

Make the outcome somehow change

But what is done is done

I cannot change the past

So I’ll cling to what I’m given

In hope that it will last
