Called Back

Called Back

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

She looked out into the world

To loathe all she beheld

Its beauty ever tainted

Simple kindness always withheld

And so, she drew away

Encasing her soft heart

She delved into the tales

Clinging to man’s art

She sank into the stories

She lived and breathed and bled them

Forgetting all her worries

And all of life’s contending

She desired something different

A world where she could be

Someone who was valued

Standing strong and free

Here, she fought the darkness

And raised high her noble sword

She smote every demon

And spoke such perfect words

She felt the feelings

And captured hearts

Drew out the stars

And broke the dark

Like Alice, she conquered

Every fear

But she was called away

Someone needed her

She wanted to stay

But He beckoned her back

Whispers and warnings

Reminders of the past

What if it ended?

While she was still trapped

Lost in the fantasy

Until reality cracked

So much to regret

Here eyes regained clarity

She learned to release

So she could again taste reality

The stories held beauty

Their basis was human

Perhaps she could live

Outside the illusion

Create her own story

Capture some hearts

Take hold of her life

Embrace a new start

Maybe she could be

The light the world was lacking

A flicker in the bleak

Comfort through interacting

Maybe she held power

She didn’t know she had

A voice to encourage

And call the sleepers back

She knew that she was weak

And yet she was given strength

Courage in her time of need

The will to fight again

She is no one special

And yet she has been chosen

Called and tasked to love

By words so gently spoken
