Rise

Rise

A Poem by Alicia-Veracity

She remembers the feeling

She remembers a spark

When she walks empty streets

Alone in the dark

She doesn’t cry

She can’t even feel it

It’s all going numb

She’s boxed up and sealed it

Why should it matter?

Why should she care?

Nothing really changes

Might as well not be there

So she fades into mist

While shadows surround

Her soul feeling heavy

As it sinks in the ground

Then she hears the laughter

Inside of her head

Infusing her with anger

Thus she’ll never choose death

She raises herself

Image steadfast, opaque

She’ll learn from the past

New choices she’ll make

She’ll leave off the box

And try something new

She’ll smile once more

Holding fast to what’s true

Each smirk from each shadow

Will fade with their ghost

While she will continue

Living each day to the utmost
