My Child

A Poem by Debbie Lyn Jones

Sometimes, sorrow must be shared ~ so that we can feel as one,  mourn as one, heal as one….

My Child

INTRODUCTION TEXT:

“If I was not here tomorrow… who would cry…who would mourn…?
…well the world would… because I am its child…”

VERSE:

My Child

My child…
I weep for you
…as I beg God to hold your pain in my own hands

My sweet baby…
I want to wish away your misery
…and place your suffering upon my own soul

My heart is heavy
…as I touch your head

My voice trembling
…as I whisper your name

My child…
I stand deafened by my own sobbing
frustrated with the unfairness of it all…

So much anguish
…for the human heart to bear
as I mourn for you…my child…

CLOSING TEXT:

Our hearts shall forever feel the loss of the children of Haiti
…and the great pain & suffering by those that are left to grieve…

How I came to write All My Child: I was working late and was walking out and saw the news on the TV by the elevator. The images of those people … the news of what had happened.

I went to my car, pulled out some paper and wrote “My Child” - no edits
