Am I insane?

Let me lie alone

In a darkened room

Let me cry and moan

And wallow in my doom

Leave my thoughts to run and stumble their cycle

Am I insane or simply suicidal?

Sometime good to lay alone. Gather thoughts and find new reasons to come alive again. All of us know sadness and depression. I like the poem. You create a lot of thoughts and reaction. I like poetry that end with a question. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

"Am I insane?" .begs the question not wanting an answer ;) ... i tend to be introverted and find my alone time blesses me with rejuvenation and healing ... so my reading was initially dampened by that ... i agree with others ...the directness and honesty make your poem quite powerful .. the depression very real and devastating ... have asked myself about insanity a time or two ... i suppose most of us do ;) i feel humbled by your poem Amy J ... well done!

This is very primitive. Primitive is great. Primitive emotions really dig into basic human thought. When sad we regress into the darkness and become almost childlike.
We have no language to really describe what we feel, we moan, we groan and we grunt. It's a universal language. If the actions in this poem were to be played out, all could understand but still try to interpret your psychology.

Just as the hippo needs its mud to wallow in - writers require a big bed of anguish in which to wallow - it doesnt indicate insanity or suicidal tendency (but that might be present - all penguins are black and white but not all black and white things are penguins).
I like the brevity - it means I got more from less Amy J.
